Lemon Almond Cake with Strawberry Sauce

Strawberries and lemons epitomize sunshine and summer. With just their bright reds and yellows, I already feel lifted. Colors affect my mood so much. Throughout my years in my parents' house I have always painted my walls yellow and chose equally bright color accents to go with it. My friends and family would often tease me that they need sunglasses to  stay in my room. Too bright! That was what I wanted to wake up to when I was young to brighten my morning, literally.

I have already abandoned by yellow room. My house now has white walls with subdued color combinations of beige and brown. I guess I have outgrown the yellow phase in my life and I think I can attribute that to being more mature now. But sometimes, this love for yellow (other bright colors) come out through my food styling. I guess you can never stop something that has already been inside you. I have a yellow board but I rarely use it, only when I see it fitting the picture.

For this Lemon and Almond Cake with Strawberry Sauce, there was no doubt that I had to use it. If the picture looks summery, then that's what you get once you make your first bite. A lingering lemony taste in the cake coupled by the delicious strawberry sauce makes summery cake desserts a treat to the palate.
