Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2025: The Best of Italian Wine Celebrated in Rome

The 2025 edition of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles (CMB) and the Sauvignon Selection by CMB once again placed Italy at the heart of the global wine scene. Hosted at the majestic Palazzo Valentini, headquarters of the Metropolitan City of Rome, the event brought together wineries, experts, and enthusiasts to celebrate the finest expressions of Italian winemaking.

A Celebration of Excellence

This year’s competition recognized 582 Italian wines, including 340 Silver, 218 Gold, and 24 Gran Oro (Grand Gold) medals. The Gran Oro medal, reserved for only 1% of the 15,000 wines in competition, was awarded to eight Sicilian wines, underscoring the island’s exceptional quality. Tuscany alone earned 91 Silver and 44 Gold medals, reinforcing its status as a powerhouse of Italian viticulture.

In the Sauvignon Selection, 33 wines stood out, including two Gran Oro, nine Gold, and 22 Silver medals, with Trentino-Alto Adige and Friuli Venezia Giulia leading the rankings.

Among the special accolades, Ca' Rugate’s Cima Caponiera Riserva 2018 was named Italian Revelation, Centinari Franciacorta Brut Italian Spumante Revelation, Cantine San Nicola’s Don Venanzio Rosato 2024 Italian Rosé Revelation, Nicolussi-Leck Sauvignon Blanc Riserva 2021 Italian Sauvignon Revelation, and Cantine Pellegrino’s Single Barrel No. 018 International Barrique-Aged Wine Revelation.

Masterclasses and Global Connections

The event also hosted masterclasses celebrating both Italian and international wine excellence. Guests explored the best Rosés of Provence, Sauvignon of South Africa, and the finest wines of Rome’s province, offering insight into global trends while highlighting local treasures.

Voices from the Ceremony

Distinguished guests included CMB President Baudouin Havaux, Deputy Mayor of the Metropolitan City of Rome Pierluigi Sanna, Foreign Press Association Councillor Alfredo Tesio, and Prefect of Rome Lamberto Giannini.

"The Concours Mondial de Bruxelles is much more than a simple competition,” said Baudouin Havaux. “It is a truly global platform for comprehensive support of the wine sector. Each medal represents not only recognition of excellence but also a bridge between wine regions and international markets, becoming a concrete tool for enhancing the identity and history that constitute the unique value of each label."

"I would like to extend my compliments and best wishes to the Concours for the professionalism and dedication with which they carry out their valuable work, capable of uniting countries and cultures under the banner of wine,” stated Pierluigi Sanna. “A union that, today more than ever, in an international context marked by strong tensions, takes on profound value. The CMB now has strong and recognizable ties to Palazzo Valentini: we have been pursuing this collaboration with enthusiasm for years and will continue to do so next year on the occasion of Rome's nomination as European Space Capital 2026. This recognition strengthens our city's role as a point of reference for food and wine culture, but also for innovation, research, and the space economy."

Upholding Quality, Supporting the Industry

For over 30 years, the CMB has maintained its reputation for rigor and impartiality. All tastings are conducted blind by leading international experts, and no more than 33% of entries may receive medals, ensuring that recognition is meaningful and prestigious.

The CMB also supports producers and distributors through initiatives like Bistrot Pedol (Milan, Rapallo, soon Bolzano) and the Wine & Spirits Experience by CMB (active in Mexico, Korea, Benin), as well as partnerships with the Cavavin network, fostering market access, cultural exchange, and industry growth.

With its combination of meticulous evaluation, global reach, and celebration of local identity, the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2025 reaffirmed Italy’s role as a cornerstone of world viticulture — a place where tradition, passion, and biodiversity converge in every glass. From Sicily’s Gran Oro winners to the Sauvignon leaders of Trentino-Alto Adige and Friuli Venezia Giulia, Italy continues to captivate wine lovers worldwide.
