Bortolomiol 70th Anniversary Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG 2020, A Special Edition

Bortolomiol, a winery in the heart of the Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG appellation is commemorating its 70th year anniversary with a special bottle of Prosecco. This unique edition, the 70th Anniversary Rive di Col San Martino Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG 2020, is a sparkling wine in a limited number of 8,000 bottles with a silver foil label. It is obtained from Glera grapes that were harvested at the end of September 2020 from a single vineyard located at Rive di Col San Martino, a steep slope in the woodlands of the denomination which enjoys perfect exposure to the sun. The fermentation in stainless steel was slow at a controlled low temperature with selected yeasts. Then the second fermentation takes place according to the slow Charmat method in an autoclave for 25 to 30 days, with aging on the lees for 3 months and 3 months of refinement in the bottle.

Young and sparkling with fine and persistent effervescence, this straw yellow wine with green reflections displays a fresh fruity and floral nose that recalls white summer flowers like jasmine along with crispy fruity notes of green pears, green apples, lemon peel and delicate nuances of stone mineral. The palate corresponds with the nose with a pronounced acidity and a hint of savoriness, smooth and moderately persistent finish. It's a great wine to drink on its own or with some simply cooked seafood and vegetable dishes.

But let's go back to the history of Bortolomiol. The winery was founded by Giuliano Bortolomiol in 1949, but the family tradition has been in existence since 1760 when his ancestor Bartolomeo Bortolomiol spent his life cultivating his own vineyards here. Giuliano, a graduate of the Oenological School in Conegliano, was the first winemaker who made Prosecco in a brut version which enhances the characteristics of the Valdobbiadene terroir and of the vintage, rather than the generic aromatic ones of the Glera grape. Like Bartolomeo, he has dedicated his whole life in concretizing his belief of the great quality and future of Prosecco.

Today, his wife Ottavia and daughters, Maria Elena, Elvira, Luisa and Giuliana have continued Giuliano's mission as their own. They have dedicated their energy and resources in ensuring the excellent quality of their products and maintaining the company’s strong links with the land and its history. They are flanked by a team of oenologists coordinated by Roberto Cipresso, an internationally renowned winemaker who takes care of the family tradition with commitment as he focuses on sustainable projects that safeguard man and nature.
