Slow Food Roman Cuisine at Hosteria Grappolo d’Oro in Rome

Hosteria Grappolo d'Oro, a restaurant located in Piazza della Cancelleria and just a few meters from Campo de'Fiori and Piazza Navona, is dedicated to traditional Roman dishes. Having a very central position in the touristic route, Grappolo d'Oro defies the stereotype image of a tourist trap an assuring principle of utilizing excellent quality with the reputable production of the Lazio region. The cuisine at the hosteria is based on seasonal and local products of small local producers and the Slow Food Movement. Behind Grappolo d'Oro are: Edoardo Micozzi, Antonello Magliari, Andrea Liguori, Simone Angelucci and Luca Tenderini, five partners who share a strong passion for Roman cuisine and good wine.

Given its traditional gastronomic foundation, it presents a new proposal in the menu, the Roman Route, which gives its diners a tasty route of the specialties of the Eternal City. The dishes created by Chef Antonello Magliari present a continuous balance between classic recipes with some modern reinterpretation while maintaining the very soul of the traditional cooking in Rome. The Roman Route Tasting Menu (€32) includes a trio of classic appetizers, a choice of a typical Roman pasta dish, a choice of a typical Roman main course, a seasonal vegetable side dish, and a traditional homemade dessert as well as water and bread.

While this menu is simply a brilliant offer in getting to know the Roman cuisine, there is also the à la carte menu to explore. The proposals start with the appetizers (€6 to €11) with an option of a platter of Mixed Appetizers at €16. There are also the pasta dishes (€11 to €14), main courses (€15 to €18), side dishes (€5 to €7), and homemade desserts (€6 to €7). The wine list of Grappolo d'Oro focuses mainly on the different wine regions of Italy with special focus on the Lazio region's offerings, some French bubbles, and a few from other wine producing countries.

A good way to start is the Mixed Appetizer that features five tasting portions of the classic appetizers, then follow it with a classic pasta dish like their celebrated Spaghetti alla Carbonara or the Tonnarelli Cacio e Pepe and the Rigatoni all'Amatriciana. Baccalà alla Romana is a very typical Roman cod fish served with tomato sauce and flavored with raisins and pine nuts. For dessert, if you want something other than the traditional Tiramisù, the cup of Zabaione with Marsala Vecchio Florio Wine and Caramelized Dried Fruits is a delicious option to end an excellent meal.
