Poderi Gallino: A Small Family Winery Producing Organic Quality Wines in Piedmont
With almost fifty years of history in viticulture, the Gallino family of Poderi Gallino has shown great passion for their wine production in Cisterna d'Asti, Piedmont since 1977. They cultivate vines in their 6-hectare land between the provinces of Asti and Cuneo. They have small vineyards planted with local grape varieties namely Barbera, Nebbiolo, Arneis and Croatina which are cultivated according to the organic methods of farming, without the use of herbicides. All the wines go through fermentation using the natural yeasts except for the white wines. Their hard work paves way to an annual production of 20,000 to 25,000 bottles.
Leonardo Gallino is hands-on in the estate and he works with his son Luca and he instills in him the same passion that he has in producing wines of excellent quality. Being a small winemaker in a denomination so important doesn't deter his success because he and his son's commitment to quality paves the way for their success.
Poderi Gallino Vino Spumante Extra Dry 2020
Sparkling wine obtained from 100% Arneis grapes and produced with the Charmat method. The wine remains on the lees in barrels for about 12 months, then after prise de mousse, it goes through further refinement with batonnage for about 60 days. Alcohol content of 13%. In the glass, it presents a straw yellow color with fine and persistent perlage. An intense nose with fresh floral and crispy fruits, a hint of jasmine with a palate that reflects the floral aromas, marked creamy acidity and persistence. Perfect bubbles for aperitif, alone or with simply prepared food.
Poderi Gallino Roero Arneis DOCG 2021
The harvested grapes ferment in an autoclave at a low temperature for about two months then it goes through batonnage until bottling. Alcohol content of 14.5%. In the glass, it presents an intense straw yellow color. It has an intense nose that recalls white flowers, ripe apricots and light nuances of fresh herbs while on the palate it has a dry vibrant character accentuated with a lingering freshness and sapidity, ending with persistence.
Poderi Gallino Barbera D'Asti DOCG 2020
Obtained from 100% Barbera grapes, fermented in concrete vats then steel vats and refinement in wood for 12 months. Alcohol content of 15%. Deep ruby red color with an intense complex nose of vinous aroma, dark cherries, plums and a hint of dried spices. On the palate it is enveloping, evokes warmth and velvety tannins with a long finish.
Poderi Gallino Barbera d'Alba DOC 2015
Obtained from 100% Barbera grapes, fermented in concrete vats then steel vats. This vintage matured in large oak barrels for 5 years, then bottled in November 2021. Alcohol content of 15.5%. Deep ruby red color going towards garnet red with an intense and complex nose with opening aromas of ripe black cherries, plums, licorice, dried tobacco and balsamic notes of menthol. On the palate, it has a full and robust body with velvety tannins and a long finish with flavors of dark fruits.
Poderi Gallino Pian del Ciabot La Ciabota 2020
Obtained from 100% overripe Croatina grapes, fermented with natural yeasts in concrete vats then steel vats, refinement in wood for 12 months and bottled in September 2022. Alcohol content of 14.5%. Deep ruby red color with violet reflections. The nose opens with aromas of sweet flowers and red fruits while in the mouth, it lends a deep and robust body, mature tannins, a veil of floral flavor, underlined sapidity and a full persistent finish. Best with cured meat, red meat and game.
Poderi Gallino Nebbiolo d'Alba 2018 DOC 2018
Obtained from 100% Nebbiolo, fermented in concrete vats then steel vats, refinement in wood for 15 months and bottled in November 2022. Alcohol content of 14%. In the glass, it presents a bright ruby red color with garnet red reflections. It has an intense and fine complex nose of violets, red berries, and dried spices like licorice and nutmeg while on the palate, it envelopes the mouth, robust with integrated tannins and ends with length. An excellent wine for meat and mature cheese.
