La Mère Germaine in Chateauneuf-du-Pape, France

Châteauneuf-du-Pape is small village that lies 12 kilometers north of Avignon in southeastern France with just over 2,000 of population. Its popularity is attached to the red wine production of Châteauneuf-du-Pape Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC) and in the medieval period, the castle that sits above the village that was built for the popes who have resided in in the 14th century in nearby Avignon after moving away from Rome.

La Mère Germaine is located in the main hub of the village along with other shops and restaurants. It is in the main road in a three-storey building that houses both a small hotel of 8 rooms and the restaurant. At Chateauneuf-du-Pape, it is one of the most recommended restaurants to try the local cuisine and wines.

At the helm of the kitchen is Chef David Rocamora, a valedictorian graduate at the hotel school of Avignon with years of professional training and experiences at a number of important restaurants in Avignon and the Beau-Rivage Palace in Lausanne, Switzerland

.

At Mère Germaine, some of the proposed dishes of the chef are dependent on the seasonal ingredients, following the traditional recipes of the area. There is an availability of varied menus to choose from, depending on the season and the time of the day.

For the Menu of the Day that changes daily, composed of three courses: appetizer, main dish and dessert, the price is €25. Whereas for the Sunday lunch and Evening Menu, the three courses are priced between €39 to €45 with exquisite choices for each course. Some mouthwatering selections are Foie Gras Confit with Marjoram, Salad of Wild Asparagus and Yellow Peaches with Muscat and Verbena; Marinated Saint-Jacques Scallop, Lime, Flying Fish Eggs, Mangoes, Vegetables and Creamy Chives; Roasted Lamb with Muscat and Rosemary, Aubergine Millefeuille, Mozzarella and Crispy Nyons Olives.

In summer, a €15 light meal is superb, providing ample servings like Oysters from Calvados, Shrimp Tartare, Fresh Mangoes, Toasted Bread with Butter and Lemon Meringue Tart with a glass of white wine. Do keep in mind that entries change according to season and availability. Being a popular place in the village on where to dine with dependably inviting dishes with high quality, and a very good wine list, it's definitely an address to keep in mind.
