Il Golfo Restaurant at Hotel Raito: Living the Italian Dream at the Amalfi Coast

There are many magnificent places that take part in the beauty of Italy and undoubtedly, the Amalfi Coast is one of those. The resplendence of its landscape along the mountainous coastline with the blue Tyrrhenian Sea takes your breath away. Located just south of Naples in the Campania region, Amalfi Coast is also easily reachable by car or by public transport. Driving along SS 163, the famously steep serpentine curved and narrow road with hairpin bends, zigzags and views over the sea carved out of the rocky cliffs in 1850 along the entire length of the Amalfi Coast is described as one of the most thrilling rides in the world. It stretches for 50 kilometers from the town of Meta going through the famed towns of Positano and Amalfi and all the way to in Vietri Sul Mare, known as the gateway to the Amalfi Coast.

Vietri Sul Mare is one of the vantage points in viewing the breathtaking view of the coastline with the Gulf of Salerno, the Faraglione of Vietri Sul Mare and twinkling lights of the city and the towns beyond. And one of the terraces where this splendor can be enjoyed is at Hotel Raito, a five-star luxury hotel designed to best enjoy the enchanting coastline. Spa, indoor and outdoor pools facing the glistening sea, and gardens with Mediterranean flora and the scent of Amalfi lemon trees in a multi-leveled structure complete the hotel's dedication to experiencing a dream-like Italian holiday. It can easily be reached by train from Florence or Rome by arriving at the Salerno station.

A particularly excellent experience to be had at Hotel Raito is the gourmet proposal of their restaurant, Il Golfo, in the hands of Executive Chef Francesco Russo. His culinary philosophy is inspired by the sun, the sea, as well as the mountains that surround the territory. The strength of the fragrance of the fresh basil and the Amalfi lemons, the bright red tomatoes like the splendid local varieties of Re Umberto or the San Marzano permeate the kitchen of the restaurant.

Chef Russo designed a menu that focuses on the premium quality of the ingredients, some of which are grown directly in the hotel's organic vegetable garden, keeping the dishes healthy and genuine. The menu has very interesting seafood proposals and a few meat dishes. Appetizers are priced between €15 to €17, Pasta and Risotto dishes between €15 to €20, Main Courses of seafood and meat between €18 to €20, and Desserts between €6 to €8 while a platter of cheese with bread and homemade jam is at €12. One of the dishes to take note of is the Sfogliatella Riccia Stuffed with Aubergines and Luciana-Style Ragù of Musky Octopus as well as the chef's simple version of Aglio e Peperoncino with Colatura di Alici of Cetara.
