From Vineyard to Olympic Stage: Crognolo and Anthium Among Italy’s Olympic Wines

On the occasion of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games, taking place from 6 to 22 February, Casa Italia becomes a showcase of Italian excellence that extends beyond sport into the realm of culture, craftsmanship, and wine. Among the 26 labels selected for the official wine list, curated to embody the prestige and diversity of Made in Italy, two wines stand out for their iconic identity and their deep connection to place: Crognolo Toscana Rosso IGT 2023 by Tenuta Sette Ponti and Bellone Anthium Lazio Bianco IGT 2025 by Casale del Giglio.

Their presence affirms the role of Italian wine as a cultural ambassador, capable of translating heritage, vision, and territorial authenticity to a global audience. Served within the emblematic spaces of Casa Italia at the Triennale di Milano, the Galleria Farsetti in Cortina d’Ampezzo, and Aquagranda in Livigno, these wines will accompany encounters between athletes, institutional representatives, international media, and distinguished guests, offering a refined expression of Italy’s enological identity.

The selection, curated by LT Wine and Food Advisory with the support of Luciano Ferraro, follows a precise and symbolic vision. It highlights native grape varieties, emblematic denominations, and the plurality of Italy’s wine economy, reflecting a balance between historic estates and producers whose work is inseparable from their territory.

Casale del Giglio Lazio Bianco IGT Bellone Anthium 2025

With Anthium 2025, Casale del Giglio brings to the Olympic stage the voice of Lazio’s ancient viticultural heritage, reaffirming its long standing commitment to native grape varieties and the Pontine landscape. Bellone, a grape of Roman origin mentioned by Pliny the Elder as uva pantastica, is cultivated behind Anzio in a rare ungrafted vineyard, preserved from phylloxera by the character of its marine soils.

In this narrow coastal area, vines over sixty years old thrive under constant sea influence, suspended between land and water. The resulting wine offers a contemporary interpretation of tradition, shaped by research, sustainability, and an unwavering respect for place. Its presence at Casa Italia strengthens a broader cultural dialogue in which Italian wine, alongside cuisine recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, speaks to the world through identity, authenticity, and origin.

Tenuta Sette Ponti Toscana Rosso IGT Crognolo 2023

With Crognolo 2023, Tenuta Sette Ponti presents a modern vision of Tuscany, uniting territorial depth with an international sensibility and the historic excellence of the Moretti Cuseri family. At its core lies a distinguished Sangiovese selection, drawn from clones of the estate’s oldest vineyard, Vigna dell’Impero, planted in 1935 at the request of Amedeo of Savoy, Duke of Aosta.

Cultivated on stony soils rich in marl and galestro, Sangiovese, which accounts for more than 90 percent of the blend, delivers structure, precision, and vitality, while a discreet touch of Merlot lends elegance, roundness, and depth of color. The result is a wine that embodies a measured dialogue between tradition and innovation, where history, landscape, and contemporary vision converge.
