Diamoci un Taglio: A Wine Tasting in Rome of Italian Monovarietal Wines

On 7 May 2019, the presentation to the press and preview of the event Diamoci un Taglio, Beviamoli in Purezza (Let's Cut It. Let's Drink it in Purity) took place in the newly-opened wine bar Matière Bar-à-Vìn. A preview of the wines that will be present in the event were provided by Raffaele Troisi of Azienda Vadiaperti - Traerte from the Campania Region and Lucia Ziniti of Cantina San Biagio Vecchio from the Emilia-Romagna Region.

On 12 and 13 May 2019, the first edition of the wine event Diamoci un Taglio, Beviamoli in Purezza will take place in WeGil at Largo Asianghi in Trastevere, Rome. The event was conceptualized by La Pecora Nera, a publishing house that specializes in the creation of food and wine guides which includes themed events, and Pasquale Livieri, the founder of the famous Roman wine shop Il Sorì and Matière Bar-à-Vìn.

The event is aimed at putting in the limelight the wines obtained from single grape varieties that are normally used in blends and to give prominence to about thirty of these producers from all over Italy who have dedicated their knowledge and work in bringing out the main characteristics of the grapes in their terroir.

"In recent years the world of wine has experienced a real exploit of events that concern it, with producers chosen according to the most diverse criteria, from belonging to a territory to adherence to a particular production philosophy. With 'Diamoci un Taglio, Beviamoli in Purezza', we wanted to give voice to many excellent expressions of vines normally and historically used in blends, to let the general public know the poetry that there may be behind a Grechetto or a Canaiolo, to make two examples. In choosing the producers we have decided not to put stakes, involving both 'traditional' wineries and naturalists but keeping the bar high on the participants' quality level," states Simone Cargiani, editor of La Pecora Nera.

According to Pasquale Livieri, co-organizer of the event, “The fundamental criterion for participation in the event is the realization of at least one wine produced with one of the vines that in the past were used as blending grapes vinified in purity."

Next to Pasquale, scientific curator Alfonso Isinelliche will be carrying out the guided tasting sessions that are programmed during the event. At the event, there will also be Oleotecacon, a corner dedicated to about thirty monocultivar extra virgin olive oils produced by diverse oil producers that are managed by Simona Cognoli of Oleonauta.

In addition wine and oil in the event, a food area will be set up by Vincenzo Mancino of DOL (of Lazio origin) where it will be possible to taste sandwiches and many other succulent preparations.

On Sunday, the 12th of May, four guided wine tastings conducted by Pasquale Livieri and Alfonso Isinelliche will take place at €15 each. (Book and buy your tickets here.)
